Chamber Of Commerce To Host Taste Of West Islip

By Greg Sleter

The West Islip Chamber of Commerce's Keep It In West Islip (KIIWI) program has been focused on encouraging residents of the hamlet to shop within the community and support local merchants. The latest chapter in the effort will be the Chamber's Taste of West Islip event at the end of March.

"We want to give local restaurants and eateries a chance to show off directly to West Islip residents," said Diana Rossi-Fontana, vice president with the Chamber of Commerce. "This is another way for us to connect our merchants to the community."

Taste of West Islip will be held Wednesday, March 31, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Our Lady of Consolation's Auditorium. Tickets are $10 per person. A Chinese Auction will also be held.

Rossi-Fontana noted that the Chamber has contacted more than 30 local restaurants and eateries and as of March 7, those who said they will be showcasing their culinary treats are Farrell's of Brooklyn, Hometown Heros, Italiano's, Long River, Sea Levels, and Villa Monaco. In addition, Our Lady of Consolation will also present some of its best dishes. Providing wine for the evening will be West Islip Wines and Liquors.

Gina Irwin, a spokesperson for Consolation, said playing host to the Taste of West Islip event is not only a good opportunity for the long-term care facility to give back to the community, but also showcase what the programs and services it offers.

"The event will also give us a chance to show off the food we make here as well, which has continued to improved a great deal over the years," Irwin said.
